2-game FanDuel MLB Early Only Slate, first pitch 6:40PM EDT. We've got a tight two-gamer to attack early, and we're anchoring around the best arm on the board with three correlated hitting groups behind him: a 3-piece Phillies stack going at Ryan Gusto, a Royals trio taking aim at lefty Andrew Alvarez, and a Nationals lefty pair sitting on Mitch Spence.

On the mound, we're rolling with Zack Wheeler (P, $10,900). Wheeler has been the most dominant arm available all year — 2.22 ERA, 0.85 WHIP, 8.42 K/9 across 56.2 innings, with a tiny .209 BABIP and a 37% HardHit% that says the contact against him stays soft. He draws a Marlins lineup that profiles as the weakest offense on this slate, and Philadelphia is a clear favorite with a low team total. This is the spend-up at pitcher and he earns every dollar of it.

J.T. Realmuto (C/1B, $2,400)

At $2,400 with catcher eligibility, Realmuto is pure value in this spot. He draws Ryan Gusto at a Citizens Bank Park that leans mildly hitter-friendly with a 10mph wind, and Gusto has been hit hard early — a 48% HardHit% and 10.3% Barrel% with a 4.27 xERA, so the contact quality against him is loud. Realmuto's .651 OPS and .138 ISO vs RHP won't wow anyone, but the catcher slot and the soft matchup make him a clean value piece.

Luis García Jr. (2B, $2,800)

García is a strong value at second base against Mitch Spence, a righty whose profile is an exposed line — a 5.91 xERA and 11.25 BB/9 in his small body of work, meaning free baserunners and hittable counts. García brings a .741 OPS and .200 ISO vs RHP, plenty of doubles pop to take advantage of Spence's command issues. Nationals Park plays mildly pitcher-friendly tonight with the wind working against the long ball, so this is a gap-to-gap and on-base spot rather than a launching pad.

Maikel Garcia (3B, $2,900)

Garcia is the value play of the Royals group against lefty Andrew Alvarez. He's been outstanding versus left-handed pitching — .978 OPS with a .354 average and matching 12.7% walk and strikeout rates in 55 PA vs LHP, elite contact and plate discipline. Alvarez runs a 4.77 xERA and a shaky 4.07 BB/9, so Garcia's bat-to-ball skills are perfectly suited to make him pay.

Bryson Stott (SS, $2,800)

Stott is in the same Phillies group attacking Gusto's loud contact profile. His .632 OPS and .156 ISO vs RHP are modest on the surface, but he hits at the top of a Philadelphia order that should generate traffic against a righty getting squared up at a 48% HardHit% clip.

Starling Marte (OF, $2,300)

In limited AB's vs Andrew Alvarez — .500 AVG / .500 OBP / .500 SLG / 1.000 OPS in 2 AB (1 H). Marte is the cheapest bat in the Royals group and brings a 14.3% Barrel% that flashes real contact quality when he connects. Against a lefty with a 4.07 BB/9 and command problems, he's a low-cost piece with on-base upside.

Lane Thomas (OF, $2,500)

Thomas rounds out the Royals trio and fits the Alvarez matchup perfectly. His .713 OPS vs LHP is backed by a strong 17.5% walk rate and a .375 OBP, exactly the on-base profile you want against a lefty walking 4.07 per nine. He'll see fastballs in the zone and has the patience to take the free passes when Alvarez misses.

James Wood (OF, $4,500)

Wood is the spend-up among the hitters and earns it. His vs RHP line is loud — a 1.028 OPS and .302 ISO, backed by elite contact metrics of 25% Barrel% and a 58.5% HardHit% on the season that lead this slate. He draws Mitch Spence and his 5.91 xERA and 11.25 BB/9, a matchup that should put Wood on base repeatedly even with the Nationals Park air working against the long ball.

Kyle Schwarber (UTIL, $3,900)

Schwarber is the power piece of the lineup. He's crushing right-handed pitching — .903 OPS with a .327 ISO and 16 home runs in 189 PA vs RHP, backed by a 20.6% Barrel% and 50.3% HardHit% overall. Gusto's 48% HardHit% allowed and 10.3% Barrel% against make this the cleanest power matchup on the board, and the mildly hitter-friendly Citizens Bank air only helps.

The lineup at a glance — Wheeler anchors as the top arm on the slate, with three correlated hitting groups behind him. The Phillies trio of Realmuto, Stott and Schwarber attacks Ryan Gusto's loud contact profile, the Royals group of Maikel Garcia, Marte and Thomas takes aim at lefty Andrew Alvarez's command problems, and the Nationals pair of Luis García Jr. and James Wood goes after Mitch Spence's exposed line. One of the eight bats — Marte — lines up against the exact pitcher he's performed against historically.

Let's have a big night! 💰🔥
