5-game FanDuel MLB Early Only Slate, first pitch 2:05PM EDT. We're punting the mound to load up on bats: an Angels–Diamondbacks cluster going at two lefties, a Tigers pair attacking Peter Lambert, and Yordan Alvarez anchoring the Houston side.
On the mound, we're rolling with Griffin Canning (P, $7,000). Canning is the punt at pitcher with strikeout upside — a 9.32 K/9 — and at $7,000 he frees the salary to load the lineup with bats. The value price is the play, opening the cap for a stacked offense.
Dillon Dingler — C/1B, $3,300
Dingler draws Peter Lambert under the closed roof at Daikin Park, and the right-handed split is the edge — Lambert gives up a 1.75 HR/9 to right-handed bats. Dingler brings serious pop, a .922 OPS with a .288 ISO and 12 HR vs RHP backed by a 12.7% Barrel% — a power piece at catcher in a neutral indoor setting.
Ketel Marte — 2B, $3,400
Marte opens the Diamondbacks group against Sam Aldegheri, a rookie lefty with command issues — a 4.24 BB/9 and a 3.77 xERA in a small sample. Marte mashes left-handed pitching, a .837 OPS with a .235 ISO and 4 HR vs LHP and a low 14.8% K%, under the closed roof at Chase Field.
Kevin McGonigle — 3B, $3,300
McGonigle is the on-base engine of the Tigers pair against Lambert — a .846 OPS with a .402 OBP, a 15.4% walk rate and a tiny 11.9% K% vs RHP. He doesn't give away at-bats and sets the table in the same neutral indoor environment.
Geraldo Perdomo — SS, $3,000
Perdomo is a value piece in the Diamondbacks group with a patient, low-strikeout approach — a .310 OBP and an 11.1% K% vs LHP. Against Aldegheri's command problems, his ability to work counts and reach base gives him a steady floor at a cheap price.
Mike Trout — OF, $3,900
Solid head-to-head vs Eduardo Rodriguez — .222 AVG / .364 OBP / .556 SLG / .919 OPS in 9 AB (2 H, 1 XBH, 1 HR). Trout draws E-Rod, a lefty whose 2.55 ERA hides a 4.82 xERA — a regression spot — and he punishes lefties with a .812 OPS, a 21.5% walk rate and a .392 OBP vs LHP, plus a 20.7% Barrel% overall. Elite power and on-base in a buy-the-regression spot.
Jo Adell — OF, $2,900
In limited AB's vs Eduardo Rodriguez — .250 AVG / .250 OBP / 1.000 SLG / 1.250 OPS in 4 AB (1 H, 1 XBH, 1 HR). Adell crushes left-handed pitching — a .937 OPS with a .321 average, a .256 ISO and 6 HR vs LHP — and with a homer already off E-Rod, he's a strong value in the same regression spot.
Corbin Carroll — OF, $3,800
Carroll is the best bat in the Diamondbacks group against Aldegheri — a massive 1.081 OPS with a .386 average, a .250 ISO and a .444 OBP vs LHP. He's swinging the hottest bat in this cluster, and against a rookie lefty's command problems he carries one of the highest ceilings on the slate.
Yordan Alvarez — UTIL, $4,400
Yordan is the spend-up among the hitters and the biggest bat on the board every day — a 1.105 OPS with a .321 ISO and 16 HR vs RHP, backed by a 17.9% Barrel% and 53.7% HardHit%. Casey Mize is a tough draw, but it doesn't matter what the matchup says: Yordan's ceiling carries the lineup.
The lineup at a glance — Griffin Canning is the punt at pitcher with strikeout upside, freeing the cap for a loaded offense. The Angels–Diamondbacks cluster of Ketel Marte, Geraldo Perdomo, Corbin Carroll, Mike Trout and Jo Adell attacks two lefties — rookie Sam Aldegheri and the regression-spot Eduardo Rodriguez — under the closed roof at Chase Field, the Tigers pair of Dillon Dingler and Kevin McGonigle goes after Peter Lambert, and Yordan Alvarez anchors the Houston side. Two of the eight bats — Trout and Adell — line up against the exact pitcher they've performed against historically. We're right on the cap.
Let's have a big day! 💰🔥
