We've got a Single Game Showdown this evening — KC @ WSH at Nationals Park, first pitch 6:45PM EDT. We're attacking both arms in this one with a balanced 3-3 game stack: three Nationals lefties going after Mitch Spence and three Royals righties taking aim at lefty Andrew Alvarez, with James Wood taking the MVP slot.
James Wood (MVP, $20,100)
Wood takes the 1.5x captain slot, and he's the right bat to multiply. His vs RHP line is the loudest in the game — a 1.028 OPS and .302 ISO, backed by elite contact metrics of 25% Barrel% and a 58.5% HardHit% on the season. He draws Mitch Spence, a righty running a 5.91 xERA and a wild 11.25 BB/9, so even with Nationals Park playing mildly pitcher-friendly and the wind working against the long ball, Wood should be on base over and over against that command. He's the spend-up at captain and earns every dollar of it.
CJ Abrams (UTIL, $12,800)
Abrams is the pay-up next to Wood and fits the Spence matchup perfectly. He's mashed right-handed pitching — .950 OPS with a .258 ISO and a .395 OBP in 215 PA vs RHP, plus 10 steals that add a scoring dimension against a pitcher who lets runners reach. With Spence walking the ballpark, getting Abrams on in front of the Nationals order is a clean source of correlated points.
Maikel Garcia (UTIL, $9,400)
Garcia leads the Royals side against lefty Andrew Alvarez. He's been outstanding versus left-handed pitching — .978 OPS with a .354 average and matching 12.7% walk and strikeout rates in 55 PA vs LHP, elite contact and discipline. Alvarez runs a 4.77 xERA and a 4.07 BB/9, exactly the kind of arm Garcia's bat-to-ball game punishes.
Starling Marte (UTIL, $4,200)
In limited AB's vs Andrew Alvarez — .500 AVG / .500 OBP / .500 SLG / 1.000 OPS in 2 AB (1 H). Marte is a value piece in the Royals group and brings a 14.3% Barrel% that shows real contact quality when he squares one up. Against a lefty with command issues, he's a low-cost way to get more Royals exposure.
Lane Thomas (UTIL, $4,800)
Thomas rounds out the Royals trio and fits the Alvarez matchup. His .713 OPS vs LHP is backed by a 17.5% walk rate and a .375 OBP, the on-base profile you want against a lefty walking 4.07 per nine. He has the patience to take the free passes when Alvarez misses the zone.
Luis García Jr. (UTIL, $8,200)
García gives us a fourth bat in the Spence matchup and adds doubles pop to the Nationals side — a .741 OPS and .200 ISO vs RHP. Against Spence's 5.91 xERA and free baserunners, García's gap power plays in a spot built around traffic and on-base volume rather than the long ball.
The lineup at a glance — a balanced 3-3 game stack going at both arms. Wood takes the MVP with the loudest contact profile in the game, Abrams and Luis García Jr. round out the Nationals lefties attacking Mitch Spence's exposed command, and the Royals trio of Maikel Garcia, Marte and Thomas takes aim at lefty Andrew Alvarez. One of the six bats — Marte — lines up against the exact pitcher he's performed against historically. We're right up against the cap.
Let's have a big night! 💰🔥
