We've got a Single Game Showdown this afternoon — BAL @ LAA at Angel Stadium, first pitch 4:07PM EDT. We're stacking five Angels bats against Trey Gibson with Samuel Basallo as the Orioles bring-back: Denzer Guzman takes the 1.5x MVP, alongside Jorge Soler, Wade Meckler, Nolan Schanuel and Donovan Walton.
Denzer Guzman — MVP, $18,000
Guzman takes the 1.5x as the leverage captain in a smash spot. He draws Trey Gibson, who has been one of the worst arms in baseball — a 5.81 ERA, a 6.19 xERA, a 1.71 WHIP, a 5.81 BB/9 and a 1.37 HR/9 — with hitters teeing off on him from both sides of the plate. The matchup is so soft that any Angels bat has a huge ceiling, and at the multiplier Guzman's upside against that line is league-winning if he runs into one. A high-leverage MVP swing.
Jorge Soler — UTIL, $9,800
Soler is the right-handed power centerpiece of the Angels stack — a .722 OPS with a .430 SLG, .218 ISO and 9 HR vs RHP. He's into the same Gibson collapse, exactly the spot you want a slugger against a homer-prone arm posting a 6.19 xERA and walking nearly six per nine in a neutral Angel Stadium. He's the biggest bat outside the MVP slot.
Wade Meckler — UTIL, $8,400
Meckler is a left-handed bat into the same Gibson collapse — a right-hander walking 5.81 per nine and getting hit hard from both sides of the plate. Meckler brings an .865 OPS with a .480 SLG vs RHP, and a starter this wild gives him a clear path to reaching base and doing damage. A correlated piece in the Angels stack.
Samuel Basallo — UTIL, $7,600
Basallo is the Orioles bring-back and a left-handed power bat — an .824 OPS with a .491 SLG, .224 ISO and 9 HR vs RHP. He draws Jose Soriano, who walks lefties at a 5.1 BB/9 with a 1.51 HR/9 vs LHH, so even against a quality arm there's traffic and power upside. He's the cheap leverage from the other dugout if the Orioles answer.
Nolan Schanuel — UTIL, $8,600
Schanuel is the on-base-and-contact piece in the Angels stack — a .766 OPS with a .422 SLG and 4 HR vs RHP. He's a left-handed bat into Gibson's walk-prone vs-LHH split, where a disciplined approach piles up free passes against a starter who can't find the zone. Same neutral Angel Stadium as the rest of the group.
Donovan Walton — UTIL, $6,800
Walton is the value bat that rounds out the Angels stack and is swinging a hot stick — a .920 OPS with a .538 SLG vs RHP. He's a left-handed bat into the same Gibson collapse, and at $6,800 he's the cheap piece that lets us pay up for the MVP and Soler at the top. A correlated bat with real upside in the slate's softest matchup.
The lineup at a glance — Guzman anchors at the 1.5x MVP as the leverage captain, with the Angels stack of Soler, Meckler, Schanuel and Walton all hammering a Trey Gibson line that's collapsed to a 6.19 xERA, a 5.81 BB/9 and a 1.71 WHIP, getting hit hard from both sides. Soler is the power centerpiece, and Basallo is the Orioles bring-back into Soriano's walk-prone split. We're betting on the softest pitching matchup on the slate to do exactly what it should.
Let's have a big day! 💰🔥
